27 October 2016 – South of Nebian

Lava flow and Roman villa

Now that normal service is being restored with the weather we will resume our usual pattern of walks. This week we will do a circular walk in the area south of Nebian, towards Lieuran-Cabrieres. The walk is about 7km, all on good tracks or quiet roads, and visits the site of a roman villa. We return along a hill-top covered in basalt which was a river valley until it was filled by a lava flow. The route is generally flat, but climbs about 100m on the return.2016-10-27-12-02-41

As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to depart at 10:00. The starting point for the walk is on the D128, about 3km south from Nebian. Soon after the brow of the hill (and well before the turning right to Lieuran-Cabrieres) there is a wide unmade track on the left where we will park, at about 10:30. We should be back in Lodeve by 13:30.

21 January 2016 – South of Nébian

A walk through the fields to the south of Nébian, mostly on farm roads, with interesting geological commentaries from Andrew and good views to the nearby hills. We crossed the river Dourbie by a ford (if you had good boots) or stepping stones.

Around Nébian

We also passed a lovely picnic spot – to bear in mind for the summer if Andrew’s friends permit.
