This week we will do the walk on the southern edge of the Guilhaumard plateau (as most years), where there is a good range of wild flowers. With luck we will see Daffodils, Tulips, Fritillaires, Pasque flowers, perhaps La Dame a Onze Heures, and more early orchids.
This is a walk of about 7 km, mostly flat though with one short climb in the middle. The first 2 km section is on a quiet road, and the rest on tracks and footpaths, occasionally stony. This area has few pine trees, so processionnaire caterpillars should not be a problem. The forecast is for a windy day with some cloud, not a hot day!
As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to leave at 10:00. The walk itself will start at about 10:40, from a parking area at La Frayssinede, at the beginning of the road that leads from the D493 towards Mas Reynal and Canals. We should be back in Lodeve by 14:00.
Distance: 7 km, climb 50 m
The weather forecasts this week are conflicting. It seems most likely that it will be wet, in which case there will be no walk. However, if the heavy rain of Wednesday has cleared up by Thursday morning, we will do a short walk from Les Plans.
This is a short walk of about 4 km, starting from the car park in Les Plans. It proceeds out of the village up the Soulondres valley, then returns by a higher path. Overall it climbs about 100 m, though is never really steep.
If it is not raining we will meet as usual at the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to start at 10:00. The walk will start from the car park in Les Plans at about 10:15.
This is a relatively easy walk across the plateau, starting at St Michel, a small village to the east of Le Caylar. The walk is about 6 km, along undulating footpaths, tracks and country roads. It is probably still too early for many spring flowers, but we may get to see a Dolmen and a Puit.
This week the weather is expected to be warm and mostly sunny, though rather windy. We propose a circular walk along the valley to the east of St Michel, going out along a hillside footpath (which may be a bit muddy after recent rain) and returning mostly along a quiet country road. At the far end of the walk we will visit the Puits de Conques, and it will be possible to climb up to the Dolmen des peyrières.
As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to depart at 10:00. The walk itself will start from the parking area behind the church in St Michel at about 10:45. We should be back in Lodeve by about 13:30. The village is about 6 km from Le Caylar, along a turning (D152) off the D9 towards St Pierre de la Fage.
Distance: ~ 6 km
This is a walk around the hills to the south of Clermont. After an initial climb it gives good views over the town.
The forecast for this week is that it will be sunny, but windy and very cold initially. We propose a walk of about 6 km which we have not done for some time. It starts near the roundabout at the entrance to Clermont (coming from Tanes Basses) and the first section is all uphill, rising about 150m. After that it is all on flat or downhill tracks, circling the town on the southern side, before descending and returning through the town.
As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to depart at 10:00. The walk will start from the roundabout on the D609 at the southern entrance to the town, at 10:30. The easiest place to park nearby is in the Hyper-U car park, but you might want to park nearer the middle of town for an easier return. We should be back in Lodeve by 13:30.
Distance: ~ 6 km
This is a short walk from St Felix de l’Heras to the Pas de l’Escalette. It includes the waterfalls where the Lergue comes over the escarpment and starts its descent towards Pegairolles. These should be impressive after the recent rain. With any luck there will be no rain during the walk, though it will be a bit windy.
As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to depart at 10:00. The walk will start from the middle of St Felix at about 10:30.
Distance: 3+ km
This is a mostly easy walk of about 6 km on a marked PR route that visits the ruins of the Ermitage St. Antoine.
The weather this week should be cold but sunny, with moderate wind. We propose a walk from Castelnau de Guers, which is just south-east of Pezenas.
The walk is a marked PR circuit of about 6 km, and is mostly easy, on a mixture of quiet roads, tracks and paths. We did this walk 2 years ago, and it passes through a great variety of countryside, vineyards, fields, garrigue and ruffe. The first part of the walk gives views across the Herault river towards Pezenas, as we ascend a gentle incline to the ruins of the Ermitage St. Antoine.
As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to leave at 10:00. The walk will start from the parking area outside the cemetery of Castelnau de Guers, at about 10:40. We should be back in Lodeve around 13:30.
Distance: ~ 6 km
This is a relatively short and easy walk around the hilltop village of Aumes – across the river from Pezenas – and its Oppidum.
The forecasters are predicting cloud and showers in Lodeve on Thursday morning, but this should stay as associated with the higher ground. So the walk this week is further south, around Aumes, a village raised above the Herault valley, on the east side, opposite Pezenas. We will do a circular walk from the village to the Oppidum, on a hill just north of the village.
The walk is about 5 km, on roads, tracks and paths, a bit up and down (total climb about 60 m) with a couple of very short but tricky sections. If there has been overnight rain some parts may be muddy.
As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva cinema at 9:50 (even if it is raining in Lodeve), ready for departure at 10:00. The walk itself will start at about 10:45 from the parking area near the Marie in Aumes.
Distance: ~5 km.
