27 September 2018 – Les Rives

2016-03-24 11-05-14This is a circular walk on the plateau to the west of Les Rives.

The walk is quite long, about 8 km, but quite easy, all on country roads and good tracks. It is mostly level, with a few rolling sections, and a total climb of about 50m. The terrain is varied, with open views across fields and the more distant plateau, and wooded and scrubby sections. The forecast is for mostly full sun, but with a continuation of the recent lower air temperatures, and not much wind.

As usual, we will meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to set off at 10:00. The walk will start at 10:30 from the parking area in Les Rives. We should be back in Lodeve by 14:00.

Distance: 8 km
Bring: Snack, sun protection.

20 September 2018 – Les Grésals

This is a relatively easy walk of about 5 km on the Escandorgue plateau in an area called Les Gresals, near Les Sieges.

This is a walk on tracks and paths on an open area of the plateau. Much of the walk is quite flat, and there are no steep climbs or descents. The surface is generally good, though there is one short cross-country section in the middle.

The forecast for Thursday is good, with less cloud than for the last few days. It should start cool, but may get hot towards the end of the morning, and there is very little shade on this walk.

As usual we shall meet at the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to depart at 10:00. The starting point is on the D151, about 500 m beyond Les Sieges, on the road to the Grotte de Labeil. There is a track on the right, with room for cars to park. The walk will start at about 10:40, and we should be back in Lodeve by 13:30.

Distance: ~ 5 km

Walk near Salasc

This week we will have a walk starting in Salasc. The walk is called Le sentier des béals. It is a 5 km marked walk, which ascends in total about 300 m. But after this climb you will have a nice view on the Lac du Salagou, the castle of Malavieille and the vineyards, says the leaflet. The walk is marked as easy to medium difficult, but can be quite taxing in places. Bring your walking sticks, as the descend is sometimes a bit steep, with loose stones.

The forecast is mostly sunny with a very (30%) small chance of rain or thunderstorm in the morning. Hardly any wind and good temperatures.

We meet at Luteva before 10 o’clock to leave at 10 am. The walk itself will start from the parking lot near the school in Salasc. We intend to start the walk between 10:30 and 10:40 am.

Leader: Dorine
Distance: 5 km. Medium difficult. Climb: 300 m.
Bring: walking sticks, water, sun protection.

6 September 2018 – St Frechoux

This week we propose a short walk (there and back) of about 4 km, alongside the Lergue river, starting at St Frechoux.

Now that the summer is over (!) or at least that the mornings are cooler, we shall revert to our standard starting time of 10:00.

The forecast suggests that there may be thunder-showers this Thursday, but if the weather stays dry we will do the short walk on the Salagou side of the Lergue, starting at St Frechoux and walking as far as the Octon road, then back along the same track. This walk is about 2 km in each direction, and mostly flat. We last did this walk about 4 years ago, before the big flood (2015) that did a lot of damage to this section of the river.

As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to depart at 10:00. The walk will start from St Frechoux (there is parking beside the river) at about 10:20. We should be back in Lodeve by 13:00.

As we move into the autumn season, please think about any walks that you would like to propose for the group. These can be of any length, from a short stroll (like our 3 km around Lunas) up to a whole day out up a mountain or at the sea-side. Don’t hold back!
