31 August 2017 – Lacoste

The forecast for this week is not good, with possible thunderstorms in the morning and rain in the afternoon. But if it stays dry we will do a short circular walk around Lacoste, giving views to Lake Salagou and down into the Lergue valley.

The walk is on a mixture of tracks and paths, and is mostly flat, though it starts with a descent and a following climb. Total distance is about 4 km.

As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 8:50, ready to leave at 9:00. The walk will start from the main square in Lacoste at about 9:30. We should be back in Lodeve by 11:30.

24 August 2017 – Chapelle St. Vincent

IMG_6637To restart the regular walks after all our summer diversions, I suggest an easy walk on the plateau. The forecast for Thursday is for a continuation of the current weather, quite windy, not too hot, and with some occasional cloud. The walk is gently uphill, on good paths, rising eventually to the ruins of Chapelle St. Vincent, on the top of a small hill from which there are good views across the plateau and the Herault valley. We then return by the same path.

The walk starts at Camp Rouch and is about 4 km long. Various extensions are possible if people want to walk for longer. The high point of the walk is about 100 m higher than the start, but there are no steep climbs.

As usual we shall meet at the Luteva Cinema at 8:50, ready to leave at 9:00. The walk should start from Camp Rouch (which is at the end of the D155E2, accessed from Le Caylar or St Felix de l’Heras) at about 9:40.

Distance: 4 km or more

CSF Walk for Life Domaine de la Clapière Montagnac 17 September

This year CSF-Languedoc will be holding its seventh annual Walk for Life on 17th September. As you will be aware, this is one of the biggest fundraising events in our calendar, regularly raising thousands of euros through sponsorship and/or donations from participants.

All funds raised from Walk for Life go towards:

  • expenses incurred in the training of our volunteers, who provide face-to-face, email and telephone support (both practical and emotional) to Anglophones in the area who are affected by cancer
  • the provision of Drop-in Days in Beziers, where people can access complementary therapies, information and space to talk

This year we will also be giving a proportion of the funds raised to CSF National, to support volunteer training that directly benefits CSF-Languedoc.

Following the success of the previous three years’ walks, we will again be starting and ending at the Domaine de la Clapière, Montagnachttp://www.laclapiere.com/ As usual, there will be two different walks (one approximately 5km and one approximately 10km).  All are very welcome including dogs on leads. The walks are on the Domaine’s private land and will both be led by a guide. (we recommend stout walking shoes and bring your stick if you usually use one). Registration for the walks will be in advance of each walk start time and you can find full details of the timings on the attached registration form.

This year, a team from the Montagnac Radio Assistance Society will be ensuring the safety of walkers where the routes coincide with public roads.

  • For safety reasons and to help with planning the event, we would be grateful if you would notify us as soon as possible the distance you intend to walk by emailing walk.csflanguedoc@gmail.com

By popular demand, we will again follow the walks with a very reasonably priced lunch. CC Fish and Chips will be providing two fish and chip options and this year there will also be a variety of options from Chillis & Spice (lightly spiced or non-spicy). All food options are priced at €12

  Food options

Fish and Chips
2 Gluten-free Fish and Chips

3 Chicken tikka – with a wrap, salad and chutneys (lightly spiced)

4 Lemon and rosemary chicken skewer, served with a pitta, hummus and salad (non-spicy)

5 Veggie salad bowl – with avocado, quinoa, fresh salad ingredients served with a lime, honey and coriander dressing. (non-spicy)

Wine will be available for sale at a reduced price from the Domaine and Les Soeurs Delicieuses will be selling their always tempting goodies.  There will also be space for people who wish to bring their own picnic, and pre-loved books can be browsed and bought for a snip at Hannah’s book stall – again, with all proceeds going to CSF.

Please note that booking in advance for the lunch is essential, as numbers are limited and must be given to the caterers beforehand.

  • For walk pre-registration and to reserve your lunch options, please email walk.csflanguedoc@gmail.com clearly stating how many walkers for each distance and your choices of lunch options.

Attached you will find registration and sponsorship forms in both English and French with full details of registration timings (bring these with you on the day). If you would like to walk in memory of someone, then you can print the “I’m Walking For…..” sign and pin it on your back. I have also attached posters in both French and English. You could print some copies and display them as widely as possible …this way we hope to encourage lots of people to join our walk. (Sorry attachments did not attach!)

Full information and all the documents are also available on our website: http://www.csf-languedoc.com

For other enquiries about the Walk for Life 2017, please email

csf.languedoc@gmail.com or phone: 04 67 44 96 19

It is your generous support of events like this that allows us to have a team of around 20 trained Active Listeners providing support to over 30 clients at any one time.

Note to all walkers:  last year Lodeve Thursday Walkers raised just over 700€ so let’s see if we can make 750€ or perhaps even 800€!? To ensure that all the money we raise is attributed to us, please put LTW on your sponsorship forms or, if you are paying, when you hand over your 5€.

I look forward to seeing you there.
