Walk near Soumont

The weather forecast for Thursday this week is sunny with nice temperatures. So we will go to Soumont to do the walk we cancelled a few weeks ago.

The walk starts in Soumont. As you enter the village there is some parking space on the left side of the street. The walk starts at that point.

We will walk in the direction of the “prieuré Grantmont’, but we will pass the buildings and go south/westwards. The walk continues uphill a bit, some places a bit steep, but not too difficult. We will also descend, but again, not a lot of steep parts.

The last part of the walk is a steady and a bit long climb for about two kilometers. But the climb is not very steep.

The walk is about 7 km. Because of the climbs and descends it will take a bit longer than usual, so bring some snacks and/or food with you. We expect to be back in Lodève between 13:30 and 14:00 hours.

We meet 5 minutes to 10 o’clock at Luteva to organise the “covoiturage”. We will leave at 10 o’clock.

Walk for Life – Email from the CSF President

I have received this email, rather delayed in copying to you all while I found out how to accomplish it, from the President of CSF but I feel it should be addressed to all those who took part or supported us with sponsorship.

Dear Jenny

I am writing on behalf of Cancer Support France-Languedoc to thank the Lodeve Walkers for the fantastic 770 euros raised in sponsorship for the Walk for Life in September. As you are probably aware, the event raised over 8000 euros, but equally importantly will raise awareness of CSF in the community through the 200 participants.

As president for CSFL, I can assure you that contributions such as yours are an essential element in helping to make our organisation run. They enable our volunteers to maintain the level of support that CSF can provide to those who find themselves in need of our services.

Thank you again on behalf of CSF-Languedoc

Yours sincerely

Graham

27 October 2016 – South of Nebian

Lava flow and Roman villa

Now that normal service is being restored with the weather we will resume our usual pattern of walks. This week we will do a circular walk in the area south of Nebian, towards Lieuran-Cabrieres. The walk is about 7km, all on good tracks or quiet roads, and visits the site of a roman villa. We return along a hill-top covered in basalt which was a river valley until it was filled by a lava flow. The route is generally flat, but climbs about 100m on the return.2016-10-27-12-02-41

As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 9:50, ready to depart at 10:00. The starting point for the walk is on the D128, about 3km south from Nebian. Soon after the brow of the hill (and well before the turning right to Lieuran-Cabrieres) there is a wide unmade track on the left where we will park, at about 10:30. We should be back in Lodeve by 13:30.

Walk from Soumont

The weatherforecast is not very promising. May be it will be too wet, but may be not. Like last week the weather forecast was not good either. And I heard you had a nice walk without a drop of rain. So let us see…..

The walk starts in Soumont. As you enter the village you have some parking places at your left hand. The walk starts at that point.

We will walk in the direction of the “prieuré Grantmont’, but we will pass the buildings and go south/westwards. The walk continues uphill a bit, some places a bit steep, but not too difficult. We will also descend, but again, not a lot of steep parts.

The last two kilometers are going uphill. This is a steady climb, but it is not steep.

6 October 2016 – La Couvertoirade

Circular walk looking for mushrooms

It looks as though we shall escape any rain on Thursday, and with a few warm days after the rain at the weekend there is a good chance that mushrooms will be sprouting. So it is the time of year to do our mushroom walk from La Couvertoirade. 2014-10-09-11-11-32

This is a circular walk of about 7km, on stony tracks and paths, mostly gentle, but with a total climb of about 100m.

As usual we shall meet outside the Luteva Cinema at 9:50 ready to depart at 10:00. The walk will start from the car park at La Couvertoirade, at about 10:30. We should be back in Lodeve by 13:30.
