1st September 2016 A walk around Villeneuvette

This is a round walk, classified as “easy” by Fiche Rando starting in the car park at the entrance to the town. We shall walk around the town before leaving and following the aqueduct to the source of the water that powered the factory in the town. It will take about an hour and is 3 km.

25 August 2016 A round walk from Gourgas

This walk will start from the randoneurs’ car park in Gourgas. We shall take the “high” road out of Gourgas down into St. Etienne de Gourgas and then return by the “low” road. It’s about 4 km. with an easy slightly uphill walk at the end to Gourgas. Much of the walk is under trees and therefore shady which will be more pleasant if it is hot.

The map for this walk is IGN Le Cayler.

Cancer Support France: Languedoc

As many of you will know our fellow walker, Mike Bezer, has been diagnosed with cancer. He is at present undergoing chemotherapy and is bearing up well. He, like other English-speaking people, is receiving support from Cancer Support France – Languedoc. He cannot speak too highly of the support they are giving him. I have also heard very good reports from others that have supported by CSF. All the support is given by trained volunteers.

CSF Languedoc relies entirely on donations and fund-raising to pay for training, volunteers’ expenses, the drop-in centre, etc. They are holding one of their most successful events on 18 September. This is

a 5 or 10 km guided walk (your choice) through the vineyards of Domaine de la Clapière. The 10 km walk starts at 9.00am and the 5 km at 10.00am.

I should like to suggest to that those of us who are available and wish to support CSF and Mike (two for the price of one!) should take part in the walks, walking as “Team Lodeve Thursday Walkers”. Taking part on the 10 km walk will be Ollie, Mike’s dog, as Mike will not be well enough to walk himself. CSF ask for a minimum donation of 5€ per person taking part.

At the end of the walk there will be fish and chips (12€) but these must be ordered now as the supply is limited, at least two thirds have already been ordered, and there will also be a picnic area for those who prefer to self-cater. Wines of the Domaine will also be on sale.

Those who cannot/do not want to take part might like to support the team with a donation.

Sponsorship is more complicated in France than in the UK and if sponsorship is obtained it must legally be paid. Therefore CSF advise that sponsorship should be paid up front for taking part and not for distance completed.

If you could let me know if you will be taking part it will help with sponsorship as the larger the team the more likely we are to get people to support us.

If you are not in France, you can still sponsor the team although the sponsorship will have to be in euros. Full details are on their website, see below. Please indicate that you are supporting the Team.

If you would  like to car share, let me have your names and which walk you will be doing and I will try and organise this.

For further information please see CSF’s website

St. Jean de la Blaquière

My apologies for the late posting of this walk.

We shall leave the square and follow the former Grande Randonnée to the turn-off for Usclas le Bosc . From there we shall return by vineyard paths crossing the Moro back to St. Jean. The walk is slightly longer than usual for August at one and three quarter hours when I tested it yesterday (I did spend time throwing sticks for the dogs when we crossed the Moro).

Please meet at Luteva at 8.50 for a 9.00 start. If going directly to St. Jean, we shall be leaving at 9.30.

Saint Guilhem le Désert

This week the walk is organised by Martine. We will go to Saint Guilhem and do a short walk around the village and near a small river in the neighbourhood of the village. The walk will be no longer than 4 km and there are no steep climbs or descends. Afterwards there is time to visit the small shops or the cathedral  and/or to have a drink together before leaving for Lodève.

Please meet at Luteva about ten minutes to nine to leave at 9h. We will share cars but in case walkers go directly to Saint Guilhem, we will meet in the main square of the village near the large tree around 9:30h – 9:45h.

Walk around Lodève

This week we will walk around Lodève. We will start at Luteva and take a path uphill onto the direction of Belbézé and come back via a different path downwards into Lodève again. The walk is often in the shade with some sections in full sun.  The walk will take around 1 hour/1,5 hours at the most. Meet at 9:00h. at Luteva and we walk from there.
